Removal of Burnt Mound 6040 at the Kaims

This week we have begun removing burnt mound 6040 from the north of Trench 6 at the Bradford Kaims. This is an interesting area of interface between two distinct burnt mound deposits, one grey and the other black. We have left a series of baulks in place in order to document the stratigraphy and to take stratified samples of stone types, charcoal, and inclusions from within 6040.

The baulks should allow us to identify any invisible internal stratigraphy within the burnt mound through chemical, geological, or paleoenvironmental means.
