We’ve had much progress at the Kaims in the past few days. The corner of trench 6, from which we rescued the timber paddle for preservation last year, is currently underwater. Yet most of the burnt mound is exposed and free of water and had only greened up a little when compared to the castle trenches. The ashy nature of the burnt mounds lends itself to quick and relatively painless cleaning, which we have now finished.
We removed our final tarp the other day and are quite relieved to find that the two timber platforms have survived quite well! Hugh and Ben started to clean them with wooden tools. We are now making plans regarding how we proceed over the next few weeks as well as drawing a full plan of the trench despite the rain.
