Interesting new finds in Trench 3

The rather enigmatic pit/post-hole feature in Trench 3, the one filled a substantial stone content, has just produced a rather fine fragment of Roman Samian ware.

Since bedrock is now visible at the base of the feature it may well be that its excavation disturbed a Roman find from a Roman context, with the find ending up in the backfill when the feature was filled in.

Just like buses rather nice finds are coming around in pairs as a well preserved Anglo-Saxon knife blade was recovered from the fill of the construction cut just to the east of the pit.
