Work in the final week is progressing well. Our Finds Department is busy preparing items for storage in the off season. They’re closing down active finds processing and are gearing up for off-season finds activity.
Trench Supervisors in both Trench 1 and Trench 3 are cleaning, recording and backfilling the older parts of the trenches, using a geotextile to protect the archaeology from weed and animal activity. We plan to return to older parts of both trenches in future seasons. We’re continuing to work on the parts of the trenches that are currently under excavation until the end of the week, when these too will be covered with a protective geotextile and backfilled until next season.
Work at the Bradford Kaimes is also ongoing; Supervisor Rory Foster and Assistant Supervisor Martin Bickerdyke will be backfilling and recording the remaining trenches as the season closes. This activity will mark the conclusion of excavation during the pilot phase of the project; we’ll keep you up to date with any future work that goes on at the Bradford Kaimes.
Staff and students are working hard to ensure that the site is well prepared for the off season. Finds reports and further reports on each of our trenches will be forthcoming later in the week.
